Summer Whites

Those of you that know me and/or follow along here, know that I basically live in black (actually, I’m wearing a black tank dress right now). What I’m lacking in my summer wardrobe, however, is white. I found that the pieces I do have are either so crisp that I can’t bear the thought of wearing them down into the subway on a gross hot/humid summer day or are dramatic and not really meant for frequent wear.  I need to stock up on a few basics and work those into my day-to-day because white really is more light and airy in this crazy heat. A cute little white dress won’t hurt either, it would basically be the solution to the problem of what to wear for every brunch, lunch and even summer dinner.

Summer in the City

Well friends, the days have raced by and somehow, it’s officially summer.  Any major travel is on hold for a bit, which means I’ll be spending most of my time in the city. While it definitely is fun, it’s also gross, sweaty and, a lot of the time, smelly. It means taking two showers a day, getting face-meltingly awful wafts of hot garbage smell and peeling your legs off the subway seats. Don’t be sad though, because it also means rosé, patios, rooftop bbq, visits from friends, cold beer, flea markets, long lazy days and slow evening walks.

I get weird about my style in the summer because, in theory, I love the heat but, in reality, it stops being cute the second I break a sweat. I like to keep it as simple as possible, with pieces that can go from day to night and can keep me cool (as cool as you can stay on a sauna-like subway platform) while looking polished.

Vogue Paris Inspiration

Vogue Paris, September 2014

Vogue Paris, September 2014

I came home from Europe in October with a bag full of (very heavy) magazines. I was really excited to find a September issue of Vogue Paris at Orly Airport on my way back because it looked awesome and it may or may not have come with a free fashion week t-shirt…

Anyway, I’m always taken by whatever Vogue Paris I’m reading, but this one had all of these images that I actually  could not stop staring at – the styling is amazing and everything about these photographs is perfect. I held on to the magazine and look at the photos every so often but I figured that it was time to share them with all of you.  Also, this way, they’re on the internet right where I can find them in case I accidentally throw out the magazine in a fit of cleaning rage (which has been known to happen). Here are some things I’m thinking I need to own because of this Vogue (click the links below to shop):

I left Japan at 11:30am on a Wednesday and arrived in New York at 11:30am that same Wednesday. After spending a few days in a crazy jet lag blur, I left for Mexico and when I got back… it was basically summer. I wish there had been more of a transitional period between seasons, but there are a few pieces I can’t put into hibernation just yet. My mood is very specific and I’m actually happy that the weather is a few degrees cooler in Denver, where I’m headed for the next  few days. Here are some things similar to the ones I’ve packed in my carry-on (click on the links below to shop).

Gucci Lip Color Intense Lipstick / Vince Berlin 6 Suede Sneaker  / Wendy Nichol Leather Bucket Bag / Maison Michel Wide-Brim Rabbit Felt Hat / Helmut Lang Leather Jacket / Chanel Vintage Button Logo Earrings
