Summer Whites

Those of you that know me and/or follow along here, know that I basically live in black (actually, I’m wearing a black tank dress right now). What I’m lacking in my summer wardrobe, however, is white. I found that the pieces I do have are either so crisp that I can’t bear the thought of wearing them down into the subway on a gross hot/humid summer day or are dramatic andĀ not really meant for frequent wear. Ā I need to stock up on a few basics and work those into my day-to-day because white really is more light and airy in this crazy heat. A cute little white dress won’t hurt either, it would basically be the solution to the problem of what to wear for every brunch, lunch and even summer dinner.

Weekend Vibes

Boho chic doesn’t have to mean earthy or frumpy. Ā Free People ads or Pinterest can definitely make you think of it like that, and it’s ok; but there are ways to elevate the style and take it to the next level. I like to think of it in a more glamorous way, more like haute boho with jewel tones and more of a 70’s glamour influence rather than flower-child. Rainy weekends like this one, when you stay in with good wine and good food, are the perfect excuse to bust out something special or mix pieces that you wouldn’t normally wear together for an extra special effect.

Summer in the City

WellĀ friends, the days have raced by and somehow, it’s officially summer. Ā Any major travel is on hold for a bit, which means I’ll be spending most of my time in the city. While it definitely is fun, it’s also gross, sweaty and, a lot of the time, smelly. It means taking two showers a day, getting face-meltingly awful wafts of hot garbage smellĀ and peeling your legs off the subway seats. Don’t be sad though, because it also means rosĆ©, patios, rooftop bbq, visits from friends, cold beer, flea markets, long lazy days and slow evening walks.

I get weird about my style in the summer because, in theory, I love the heat but, in reality, it stops being cute the second I break a sweat. I like to keep it as simple as possible, with pieces that can go from day to night and can keep me cool (as cool as you can stay on a sauna-like subway platform) while looking polished.

Ok, yes, these photos are from Gucci’s spring/summer 2015 campaign, which I suppose makes them old news; my feelings, however, are not. I had pretty much written off Gucci for years but, suddenly, I realized it had slowly crept back into my heart with it’s right-on-the-money 70’s-inspired pieces. I’m writing about it now because I only just got around to my March issue of Vogue, and the back cover is one of these glorious ads. I want cropped bell-bottoms and flowy blouses and suede, so much suede… take a look at these photos and bask in their retro magnificence.
